Aspiring Leaders launches its third year

Aspiring Leaders

The first Aspiring Leaders session of the 2024/2025 school year brought together about 45 Red Deer Public staff, marking the third consecutive year of the °®¶¹´«Ã½app-wide leadership development initiative.

The session, titled ‘Five Essential Questions for Leaders’ featured a panel of five °®¶¹´«Ã½app leaders who shared real-world examples from  their leadership journeys. These discussions were centered around five questions designed to challenge perspectives and ignite curiosity. The questions included: Wait, What?, I wonder…?, Couldn’t we at least…?, How can I help?, and What truly matters?

“Great leaders ask themselves essential questions that challenge their assumptions, inspire their curiosity and help them build meaningful connections,” said Corrine Thorsteinson, Associate Superintendent of People Services.

Following the panel discussion, participants engaged in the practice of asking their own powerful questions, fostering deeper understanding, while reflecting on the importance of navigating complex challenges with clarity and purpose through a roundtable exercise.

“The strength of the Aspiring Leaders program lies in the collective wisdom of the group,” said Corrine. “Each participant brings unique insights and experiences, and over the last three years, this collaborative approach is consistently  highlighted in the participant feedback as a key takeaway.”

There are four more Aspiring Leaders sessions scheduled to take place this school year. These include:

  1. Six Thinking Hats for Decision Making on December 3
  2. Developing Habits for Leadership on February 6
  3. Leadership Spotlight on April 3
  4. Leadership Symposium on May 29

“These sessions are a perfect opportunity for any Red Deer Public employee who wants to explore whether a formal leadership position is right for them; wants to build or enhance their leadership toolkit; wants to lead where they are at; or wants an opportunity to learn from and engage with other colleagues interested in leadership,” said Corrine.
